FAQ

Law Enforcement Blue Heart Medal

The blue heart medal is the first national medal to be awarded to law enforcement officers, either seriously wounded, killed or suffer severe PTSD in the line of duty. The medal is awarded to local, municipal, state, and federal law enforcement authorities.
The blue heart medal was developed by a team of retired police officers, federal agents, US Air Marshals Service, and the FBI. Police Officers from Municipal Police Departments placed emphasis on its creation, including elaborate artwork.
The blue heart medal sets the stage for recognition similar to the purple-heart medal awarded to military personnel who performed admirably during their service to our country. Members of law enforcement perform equally as well. Every day, each officer serves his police agency in the same regard by carrying weapons, serving the public, wearing the uniform, and responding to incidents that are life threatening.
Recipients for the blue heart medal are members of law enforcement who are either killed, injured or suffer from severe PTSD in the line of duty. The law enforcement organizations requesting the medals will determine who the recipients are based on the unfortunate details of each event.
The distribution of each medal will have specific criteria to ensure each recipient is authentic. Criteria for the medal includes, but is not limited to, the selection of the award, the specific numbering of each award, and most importantly, the award must be obtained through the distribution provider.
The blue heart medal may only be obtained by law enforcement agencies with powers of arrest. The request to purchase the blue heart medal must be on official city, town, state, or federal letterhead. Each sale will be carefully controlled to insure that the program is not compromised by counterfeiters that attempt to replicate it.
The time has come for law enforcement officers, from municipal to federal agencies, to be recognized when any unforeseen event places each of them that serve, in harms way, which results in death or injury.
